Since moving to where we live now 18 months ago I have gained a bit of weight. 20 lbs if you must know. It all comes down (up?) to longer winters with less daylight, a more sedentary lifestyle (mostly due to aforementioned), snacking when bored, stopping breastfeeding but still eating the same amount of calories, and drinking more alcohol (I blame that on the climate too right?). I am already at a weight much higher than I've ever excluding pregnancy, so before the scale reaches a number that I don't want to see, I decided to do something about it. For the record I'm at 149.7 , I really don't want to see 150, when I step on the scale it is literally tipping dangerously close to that number. For the past 3 weeks I've been exercising. Five days a week, no excuses. I've been alternating a day of running with a day at the gym on the eliptical. I have to admit that I hate running but it's an easy, doable way to get fit. I've done it before so I can do it again gosh darn it!When I first started running I was applying the Dr.Mama philosophy http://doctormama.blogspot.com/2006/05/listen-up-maggots.html (I tried to insert the link better but couldn't figure it out-ugh). It worked out pretty good in that I was pretty much running for the whole 30 minutes but I don't feel like I was pushing myself enough. I've decided to find a running program. I've been looking at different couch- 5K programs. Not because I want to run a 5K but because they are so readily available and meet my needs well enough. I'm giving myself until tomorrow evening to decide on one since that's when I'm due to run next. For my own accountability I'll do a post on what I decide and of my progress.
