I've never been a big fan of "girl" colors. Pink and purple just aren't my thing. Lately though I'm finding myself purposely choosing items that strongly shout GIRL. In a house full of boys things tend to be mostly masculine, which I'm fine with, like I said girly colors and things aren't my style. Since I'm not girly either that makes my stuff all the more susceptible to the taking by the males in the house. Need shoes to slip on to take out the trash? Mama's grey slip on shoes will work just fine. Mama's bike is blue, I'll ride that to the BMX track since my tire is flat. To help combat this issue I've been choosing things in "girl" colors. My new exercise ball, it's fuschia. New running shoes, pink. Cover for my IPhone girly indeed. What I failed to keep in mind however is that we haven't ever been the kind of parents who discourage the use of "girl" things or even identify things or colors as being gender specific. So far no one has slid my pink shoes on to take out the trash. As for my exercise ball, "Oh Mama I love your new ball! That's my favorite color!" Sigh. only a matter of time before I find it flying around the yard. On the plus side I do feel slightly more feminine. The teenage me would have been appalled.
